Tool Tracking

Never Lose Another Tool

Solutions

Thanks for a good summer of services! I received a lot of good words about how easy the website was to navigate and track the whereabouts of our employees. Next summer will get a lot more devices activated.

Tool Tracking - Never Lose Another Tool

Why Track Tools?

95% Fewer Lost and Stolen Tools with Btracking. Want to virtually eliminate missing tools?

Every contractor knows the feeling when tools can’t be found, get left behind, or are stolen. It’s costly and time consuming.

Btracking has you covered with three Tool Tracking options.

Option 1. BLE tool tags pair with BLE-enabled GPS trackers installed in vehicles or at job sites. When tools are in range (about 300 ft), they are paired and thus are “on board” the vehicle or “on-site”. When out of range the pairing is broken and the last location is displayed. Our Standard Platform provides basic tracking (tools on board, last location). Our ProFleet Platform provides the complete Tool Tracking package with Tool Inventory Status, Reports, Driver Awareness (pickup/dropoff/left behind alerts on the DriverLink app) and optional 2-way messaging.

Option 2. AirTrackersTM provide near-real time Tool Tracking for minimal cost. AirTrackers (both solar and battery powered) pair with any nearby phone. The phone sends the locations to the platform and bears the cost so you don’t need to.

Option 3. Mini GPS Trackers (also solar and battery powered) that provide real time locations.

Track Tools with BLE Tags
Small, inexpensive BLE (bluetooth low energy) tags can be attached to tools and portable equipment. These tags are powered by a watch-type battery that continuously beams the tag ID about 250 ft, for several years. And because BLE tags don’t have a GPS or cell modem, you’re not paying for a separate platform subscription.

When your BLE-enabled GPS tracker moves within range of a tag, it transmits the tag ID (and thus the tool ID) to your platform. When it moves out of range, for example when a tool is dropped off, or left behind, the tag’s last location is continuously displayed and you and your driver receives notice. Off-vehicle tools can be located using a BLE locator app on your phone.

Track Tools with GPS Battery Trackers
BLE tags are great for tracking where tools get dropped off and which vehicle they’re on, but BLE tags don’t display real time tool locations once the BLE tag is out of range (approx 250 ft) of a GPS tracker in the vehicle or the warehouse. To track tool locations in real time with GPS, our Mini Battery GPS Tracker is ideal. See our Tracking Portable Equipment page for details.

Option 2 - Tool Tracking with AirTrackersTM

Btracking Solar Power Mini Tracker

AirTrackers automatically connect to any iPhone within about 300 feet, which in turn transmits locations to the ProFleet Platform. Locations are sent to the platform via the connected phone, providing a very inexpensive tracking solution.

The platform checks for new location pings on a set schedule of every 60, 30 or 10 minutes, depending on your subscription plan. Locations are passed through an algorithm to verify validity. Some scheduled checks will find one or more locations, some may have none (i.e., when no iPhones were nearby). Sometimes locations may arrive belatedly.

View the locations of all your tagged items, where they are and where they’ve been, on the cloud-based platform right from your phone or desktop computer.

Option 3 - Tool Tracking with GPS Trackers

Battery powered and solar rechargeable battery GPS trackers have cell modems and don’t require another GPS tracker or phone to send messages.

GPS Tool Tracking FAQs

Btracking uses BLE tags and GPS trackers to monitor tool locations. Tags beam a unique ID within 250 ft, and BLE-enabled GPS trackers in vehicles or warehouses transmit the tool’s location to your platform in real time.

BLE tool tracking tags are small, inexpensive, and battery-powered with a life of up to 3 years. They provide pickup/drop-off alerts, track where tools were left behind, and let drivers see inventory directly on their phones.

BLE tags show when and where a tool was dropped off, but for continuous real-time locations, Btracking offers GPS mini battery trackers. These provide updates whenever tools are in motion or stationary.

Contractors can see which tools are on a vehicle, which job site they were dropped off at, and when. This reduces time wasted searching for tools, lowers theft, and provides a clear tool inventory dashboard across the entire fleet.

Tool tracking starts from just $1 per vehicle per month for unlimited BLE tags. GPS tracking subscriptions begin at $12.95/month, with options for battery-powered or solar trackers depending on tool usage and environment.

With Btracking’s DriverLink app, drivers receive real-time alerts if tools are dropped off or forgotten. They can also communicate with dispatch, view inventory on board, and get routed to pick up or drop off tools.
