Option 1: Mini BLE Tags
- Mini BLE Tag Student/Passengers carry mini BLE tag attached to backpack or clothing
- BLE-Enabled GPS Tracker Installed in Bus Btracking's Piccolo Plus School Bus GPS Tracker sends tag ID to platform and ParentLink app, and provides bus location, driver behavior, engine diagnostics
- Video System Optional integrated wifi video system (video sent to tracker via wifi, tracker transmits video to platform) or standalone video system (dashcam transmits video to platform, requires separate network connection)
Option 2: ID Card or HID Fob
- ID Card Student/Passengers scan an RFID card or HID fob on a card reader when boarding the bus
- GPS Tracker with Card Reader Installed in Bus Btracking's Piccolo STX GPS Tracker sends card/fob ID to the platform and ParentLink app, and provides bus location, driver behavior, engine diagnostics

How do parents track the school bus in real time?
Parents use the ParentLink mobile app to view the bus location, bus route, estimated arrival time, and route history in real time. Parent also get an alert when the bus is on the way and when it has arrived at the student’s stop.
How does the school bus GPS tracking system work?
Btracking’s school bus GPS trackers and Pro Fleet platform provides real-time bus location, route tracking, and accurate, real-time updated ETAs for each stop. From the platform, school administrators see real-time bus locations, route progress, delays, and missed stops. Parent see the real-time bus location and stop ETA on the ParentLink app, and receive alerts on arrivals, departures, and delays.
How are student pickups and drop-offs tracked?
There are three ridership tracking options:
1. Mini BLE tags worn by students send automatic check-in/out data to the GPS tracker.
2. RFID cards or fobs scanned on entry log each boarding.
3. DriverLink app with RFID reader records student ID and bus location without needing vehicle hardware.
Each method provides time-stamped logs visible in the ParentLink app and school dashboard.
What is the ParentLink app and how does it help guardians?
The ParentLink app is a free tool for iPhone and Android that shows the bus’s live location, estimated time of arrival at a student’s assigned stop, and notifications of when a student boards or exits the bus (if student tracking is enable by the school). It’s designed to give families peace of mind with real-time visibility.
Can the system detect unauthorized passengers?
Yes, if a student with a duplicate ID card or a passenger not assigned to a specific bus route attempts to board, the system flags the incident and notifies administrators—improving rider accountability and safety.
Is student data FERPA-compliant?
Btracking follows strict data privacy, encryption, and access control protocols to comply with FERPA and other student data protection regulations.
How are delays communicated?
If a bus is delayed, the system sends real-time alerts to parents via SMS, email, or in-app notifications, ensuring they’re always informed.
